The compo machine had dual Titan X GPUs, so while we did try to optimize performance, the quaternion Julia part is on the slow side ( dips to 30 FPS in 720p on a AMD RX480, while most other parts run at 60 FPS). The intro has been tested on AMD and NVidia cards with recent drivers, it does not run on current Intel GPU drivers. The Safe version should have no shader-warnings, and should be more future-proof than the slightly smaller compo versions that are provided mostly for completeness sake. * 200 MB ram (for the Crinkler decompression) * Tested on Windows 7 and Windows 10. * 6 kb diskspace .Thank You ---------- - Kaatje and the kids for giving me time to work on this release - Blueberry and Mentor for Crinkler 2.0. - Gopher and Powl/Alcatraz for 4klang - Knighty for the original polyhedron code (via Fragmentarium) .About the intro. ----------------- This intro was supposed to be a quick entry for Demosplash 2017 in the USA, because I was getting antsy to make something again instead of working on tools. This would have been only the second time I made a remote entry, if only Kneebiter and El Blanco hadn't decided to break years (decades?) of sofa-scening tradition and go on a roadtrip to Demosplash. So, a bit more time and elbow grease was applied than initially planned, because I wouldn't want their party experience to be a disappointment. The fancy optimizer went largely unused, because Kneebiter reminded me that Demosplash doesn't have size categories, so we didn't *need* to aim for 4K. El Blanco was given permission to go wild with the music size, leading to a track that is several hundreds (gasp!) of bytes bigger than usual. Credits also go to Yncke and Coplan for design tips, and Ranger Rick for the title. Getting the final version to Kneebiter and El Blanco in time for the submission deadline was a bit tense, with the 6 hour time differential and then the intro didn't work on Kneebiters laptop, despite having been tested on both AMD and Nvidia cards. The latest drivers were tested and had no influence, debug versions were build and results send back... A test on the compo machine did run fine, so we called it a night, and the laptop problem eventually turned out to be the laptop Optimus pitfall of programs running by default on the Intel GPU (facepalm). Thanks to Scenesat I could follow the compos on the stream, and I was relieved when the intro ran without problems. There was a very diverse field of competitors in the Modern compo (from android to Vulcan), out of which we managed to place first. I'm quite happy how the intro turned out artistically, even though on the technical side there are some artifacts here and there (shadow banding, visible far clipping during the zoom). With more time, the intro could maybe have been a 5K intro, but since Demosplash doesn't have size limits, we didn't force ourselves. Thanks to the Demosplash organizers for a charmingly chaotic party! . . .:._\ _\.............................:.. : \ \ : :: ' \ Fulcrum memberstatus: :: : ------------------------ : :. seven.....................code .: : coplan...................music : : el.blanco................music : : ranger.rick..............music : : the.watcher.........code,music : : yncke.................graphics : : miss.saigon..............music : : kneebiter.................code : . :: :: / . ....................::......... . . . . . ..........::...../_ /_....... : : / / .: . .........: visit us at : :..../..... . :. .: --------------- :.
