Any chance for "soviet i8080 based" category?
category: general [glöplog]
Hi there.
During 80' "that russians" made a bunch of home computers based on i8080 clone KR580VM80 CPU. Here is short list, emulator supported
Vector06c(PK-6128, Krista) - also some variations had i8085 clone
L'vov PK-01
PK-8000(PK-8010, PK-8020) - crazy attempt to reproduce MSX with soviet components only
Specialist(more DIY, but with some modifications manufactured at few factories)
Orion-128(DIY)
i8275 VCRT based
RK-86
Apogei
Partner-01
Mikrosha
UT-88
Kakos_Nonos already uploaded some prods for Apogei and UT-88. Some demos exist for Vector06c as well.
So, is there any chance to make "soviet i8080 based" category? Thanks in advance.

agree
Agree also. So we have zx enhanced, why we can't have i8080 based category if we have some prods from it? ;)
How many prods are we talking about?
here are two apogey demos: http://demozoo.org/productions/tagged/apogey-bk01c/
Another one for PArtner-01: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=65498
also, there's a scener-produced tracker for apogey, which noone added here yet: http://randomflux.info/1bit/viewtopic.php?id=6
+1, I think this is a good idea. If I understand some of those Russian websites correctly, the scene for these machines was quite big in the day. And now it's slowly coming back, it seems. So, that's two good reasons for adding i8080 as a category.

why are we having this discussion again?
vector 06c demo archive
the lowdown: there's indeed a bunch of native prods but the best stuff is all 1:1 conversions from spectrum and the rest is of this level: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=51956
keep in mind that z80 was designed to be compatible with 8080 just like those russky cpu's...
and the mentioned systems are not really compatible with each other...
or at least, not any more compatible than they are with spectrum or msx...
i know it's the new fashion here to create categories that are defined by what the systems in it are not- e.g. "zx enhanced" for everything zx that's not real zx according to some arbitrary definition
imho that's a cop-out and we should avoid adding further "is-not-categories" or otherwise lump together reject platforms in non-specific categories
i'd say that the vector 06c archive linked above is probably just about enough reason to add that platform, it will at least have more than one page of prods
as for the other systems mentioned---> show us the archives :)

PMD-85 with i8080.

@Gargay, my guess is 50+ prods for start. Kakos already added his 7 prods. There is quite big base for Vector06c(and its forks), last night i found some prods for PK-80x0
@utz, you are right. Also most of these computers were supplied as school(educational) computers. However most of software lost in the sands of time.
@havoc, why not?
1. Conversion? Hmmm, look around - most prods here are "conversions", so, try to convert 1:1 spectrum(3.5Mhz Z80) prod to i8080 running at 2-2.5Mhz and we will talk after that.
2. Z80 is a bit enchanced(and speedy) i8080, you are right here.
3. Yup, they aren't compatible with each other(except groups, like i8275 VCRT or Vector forks or PK-80x0), so what?
4. NOTE. I didn't asked for MANY categories, i asked for ONE category "soviet i8080 based". Or either "soviet and eastern block i8080 based".
This category have more historical, rather than demoish meaning.

Maybe we should upgrade the Pouet's Western-centric and pre-USSR Collapse design ?

pouet.su ?
mc68k,
1. lyra conversions for vector 06c... i've seen them, have you?
3. not compatible means they don't belong in one single platform category. what you propose is the same as combining atari st, mac and amiga into "USA 68k based"
since pouet is a demoish rather than a historical site, i think your proposed category doesn't belong here

As oppose to ZX separation flame war i would like to dig out these prods from wild first and see, how it will go.
By the way, these computers kinda CP/M compatible more or less )

btw, how about volunteering to run the "soviet and east european i8080 based demos" list on this site? i'd be happy to set it up for you if you want, lists.php is totally the right place for that kind of stuff
i am completely amazed about the number of vector-06c productions. thanks to bringing these to my attention! they even had an own demoparty which was running for three years. the sheer number of demo/sounddemo/giftro productions fully justifies an own platform for that machine, if not here, then at demozoo.
I think this sort of thing is best solved by having a tag-system, which I hope will be implemented in Pouet.net 3.0.
For now, I would redirect you towards http://demozoo.org, which already has such a system in place (an interesting feature may be to link the sites together, so that tags on Demozoo can also be seen on Pouet.net for demos which have a Demozoo-link).

vector-06c platform @ demozoo - voila! http://demozoo.org/platforms/65/
agree
bunch on i8080 machines + ZX Spectrum + BK0010/11 = tree main platforms in exUSSR
