Why on earth do they keep Mekka and TG at the same time??
this just means less productions per party. I'll be attending TG.. and I hope that there will be more attendants this year than the previous. so, anyone here going to TG02?

since mekka is the superior demo party its prety clear that tg is not a sceneparty that trys to ahve a party the same date since no reasonably sceners will go there

I'm going to TG, and I'm gonna participate in all the compo's I can. But it's a shame that the game-compo's are getting more prizes than the scene compo's.

hasn't the recommended procedure for maximum fun and profit been like:

You'll be lucky to find 40 sceners out of 4000 at TG. Even when I went four years ago, the vast majority of people were gamers/non-sceners.
M/S 2001 had hundreds of releases, the most of any party last year. TG hardly got in the way of that (I saw several Norwegians at M/S). You will get an entirely different experience at each party. Choose wisely.

TG definitely used to be also a nice party ... in the last few year's it lacked scene support part by part...and last year was not too good if you look at the demo-entries and such! This was the first year when I even didn't archive ANY of the compo-releases from there! :-(

Cause enough SCENERS (=YOU!) support it nicely and have lotsa fun there!
But do you all really like to have just ONE SINGLE (COOL) PARTY event every year instead of various nice SCENE events in several countries, cities and locations...with several people and conditions...and of course VARIOUS more releases?!??
What can be the advantage of having JUST MEKKA left in a few years and if you go there you'll have to watch like 80-120 DEMO-entries (if you sum up all categories!)...
NO ONE can concentrate that long in front of the big screen! It's even kinda 'unfair'...as with such a LOT of releases you will get also MANY more quality entries which might deserve a 1st place...but of course only ONE can win!! (it's NOT about money here!!! It's about the HONOUR a release deserves if it's really cool done!!!)
Also think about this that MEKKA doesn't have unlimited space for people!! They won't change the location...and last year was already pretty DAMN overcrowded already in my eyes...this also isn't best for a 'nice feeling' of a pure scene-party in future I guess!!

the misquote tells pretty much enough about previous gatherings:) in 97 you couldn't even note that the introcompo was running because pelulamus were not only playing but also blasting newest eurohits in full volume at the same time. (not that i would really care as much as asm-nazis if some lamer secretly plays kuake during compos but that was a bit too much)

The Gathering had it's chance to return being a real scene party. But the organziers didn't used the chance, so it's not the fault of the people which are deciding to attend a better party than TG.

Since the expence of going to TG and MS is somewhat the same when you live in Aarhus, Denmark, I must admit that MS is drawing my attention again this year ;-)
It's not as good/cozy as SceneEvent/SummerEncounter/TRSAC but it's the best "largescale" demoparty I've ever attended.

this year I'll be at mekka for 98%, and actually it's my first one. btw, I'm not dead-sure this will be the best party I ever attended although many people tell that. I have to see ! in germany many people think a good scene party is standing around a fire and boozing. I do not agree to that, so again, I'll see. just claiming mekka rulez ass off is cheap.

Of course I'll go to the Gathering! No other party can offer 25% of the visitors being females and nice online party chats & dating on irc. Damn. No boring hours after hours watching demos like at Mekka but pure teen spirit. Woaah.

I just wonder.. why do they have to plan TG at the same time as mekka? I think that if TG was some other time of the year, more sceners would be there. At least some of those who has to choose between ms and tg, and prefers ms.
I haven't been at either of them, but I'm planning to go to mekka. If I could, I would have gone to TG also. (much depending on my financial status, of course)
I really hate the gamer-attitude and their presence at demoparties. I hope that this could change again, but I guess it won't. Unless some party-organizers think the same and makes the scene the nr 1 reason to go to a party.

Last time I went to TG was in 1999, when the 500 sceners there were either in the (demo)organizing team, their peers and the foreigners. Add that up to the 3200 ga(y)mers, that does not look like a demo party anymore -especially when quaking people complain about the fact that they're being crowded by people who watch those 'freaky psychedelic animations' while they're playing in front of the bigscreen.
Getting the scene togehther is one thing, but the shameless plugging for your ticket booth kinda feels...wrong (expletives deleted)
