What would be the Killer Demo Effect?
category: general [glöplog]
I went to a seminar on scene history. The invited speaker was Kalms from The Black Lotus (main coder). He showed and discussed the scene development from simple cracktros in the 80's til the monster demo productions of today.
In the end he got an interesting question -- is there a Killer Effect that we all dream of? Is there something we've been wanting to do but not achieved yet?
His answer was a truly good voxel engine. Any other opinion?

the ultimate killer effect is where you make a truly white color on a normal monitor, burning out their eyeballs.
2D Plasmas.
infinite cubes ;)
yea, lots of cubes. flatshaded, ofcourse
Vertical rasters would really kick ass but I guess it's impossible to achieve.
Hello Copper -Corsair- Master ;)

It's a stupid question. We all know that design matters much more than effects. So the ultimate killer effect is a superbly presented vectorcube.
so...
DESIGN=KILLER DEMO EFFECT
but everyone knows that
DESIGN=ART
and
ART=CANCER
therefore, unsurprisingly..
KILLER DEMO EFFECT=CANCER

in consequence PIRACY would equal KILLER DEMO EFFECT ?
No way ;)
No way ;)
good point- well, some will even claim that
DESIGN>KILLER DEMO EFFECT
i don't even want to think about the conclusion that would lead to ;)

640 metaballs
A flatshaded square that rotates around 0 axiseses. (what is the plural of axis?)
"axes"
Strobe, and its natural evolution called "hypnoglow".
Since it's done already, we can just go home now.

Gargaj =))))
Water physics modelisation.
Yeah, I thought of water or even a more complete physically correct 3D world. ASD had nice "watery" wireframe movement in their Gathering release Ambience for the Masses.
Also, thinking of the music video metaphor for demos I would like to see demo effects truly integrated with humans moving, playing and singing (blue screen technique and the like).

shit. I've written a big page, but my gateway fucked up the post.
a bouncing pixel.
so....
real time pattern matching used to postdraw things... image fade, but the fade done in other math. space encodage (resulting in a morphing)... sound generations directly from physic model, to make a guitar sound generation directly from a finger movement track.... some stuffs have not been done yet with marchin cube... lots of idea (amongst them: complex object description compressed some strange ways so that they are matrixable...) etc etc....

Hmmm.. Faktory's ASM'04 demo had a wave equation solver.. and Statix's Bleam had bluescreens.

and of course, nice caustics reflecting, with faking to bypass the "reverse processing" implied by the photonic accression.

and if you dont't own IPU (Imagination processing unit) in your brain like most people, you can copy tons of ideas here:

Lensflares, glow and CHROME!!! Just... more of it!
