Are coders becoming obselete in the demoscene?

category: general [glöplog]
Well, i guess when they are not even trying to do cg stuff, it does not make a lot of sense to compare them to do demoscene :)

And that opinion is exactly the problem. cg stuff is way too much valued, demos are more than just that. But that got more and more forgotten on some platforms, eh? :-) There are several platforms where big cg-stuff is not interesting at all, as they lack the cpu-power for such things anyway. Just imagine our last wild, or think of a demo done on a small lcd-display, there are lots of nice machines you can do weired things on without ever bothering of cg.
And now imagine even more weired stuff: Wouldn't things like robotics or cluster computing also be nice stuff for the scene? A wild on a cluster? Why not :-)
Scene's not dead, just maybe the idea of demos some people have :-) Broaden your horizon :-)
There is a robitics and supercomputer-cluster scene out there, its just not the demoscene :)

Blablala, then go on and let your demoscene die :-) What's wrong about a demo running on a cluster? :-) It's a demo, right? Demoscene is more than PC, and demoscene is more than 3D.
Ok, but what is a demoscene demo without computer graphics? This was all it was about since the 80ies :)

That means even every metalvotze demo that has some graphics in considered to be 'computer graphics' ? :-) Though it is mostly a weired bunch of ascii chars that ought to be a penis or alike? :-)
yes, what else? Its definitly not some network log from the latest test of your cluster.. :)

Time to revive this old thread. Finally I got proof! Read a statement by one of the higher ranking members of the scene, acknowledging that coders are indeed obselete:

stelthz, YOU ARE STUPID. face it.

plus, the scene has no rank.

That is because you have not been told yet! Your rank is NIL, of course.

I was just wondering (because I don't know - this is not supposed to be ironic), has anyone made any demo with werkkzeug1 yet ? (apart from fr guys).

From what I know the Breakpoint 04 invitation was done with .werkkzeug1. Since it contains a shitload of pictures it isn't an intro any more. => Yeah, there was a guy stupid enough to do a demo with it. Thx Uncle-X. :)
navis:

I listed many in this thread: http://www.pouet.net/topic.php?which=1394

cool thanks.

however, for some reason, most of the them are almost completely thumbed down.. I wonder if people do that because it is a WZ production or because they are just bad..

Navis: WZ is very powerfull, but most of its users still need some more practice with it. It's like a Dremel [Dremel WHQ] - very powerfull but if you don't know how to use it it's not better than the average hammer.

nop, at least they will code some more demomakers :]
and more, and more and more...

Stelthz: most of these demos were made only for learning purposes, posted just for fun on vectronix.org forums and noone expected them to be added here. In fact, some of their creators were a bit annoyed seeing them here.

kzryzyrz-K: Not true, there is an equal amount of "serious" ones, just check out the earlier productions in the thread. I also do not think that even some experimental stuff defies the purpose of showing what is possible with .wz.

But anyways, I already adressed this in the referenced thread. I also asked to delete some of the broken productions.

The stuff you can do with a demomaker is always limited, so we will always need new tools for progression. The coders are a long way from being purposeless.

demo makers may be limited, but new tools like .wz are far more powerful than you might think. after all, they were used by actual demogroups to make actual demos before they were made public. demomakers have evolved a lot from the days of trsi demomaker on the amiga. i think they are now getting to the point where they help the scene more than they hurt it.
