Alambik request
category: offtopic [glöplog]
I've wanted to get a copy of Alambik for quite some years now. I finally have the money to buy A.C.E-1 Standard, and their site is all messed up and not updated.
Any ideas on how I could get a copy?

w00t!
back to the future!! :D
well, I worked at Alambik during 5 years, the company is dead since 2005 so you can keep your money now :D
I will get in touch with old members and to my very old backup to see if I can dig up the complete unlocked version and give it to you, today, I presume nobody will care about that :D

That would be AWESOME. Send it to xteraco@gmail.com
This is why I love Internet. :)
I'm guessing it was a no-go?
I fully support your right to make demos on whatever platform you want, of course... but why not look at WebGL? It fulfils the same goals (and more) that Alambik was working towards all those years ago, but it's browser-native, an open standard, currently trendy, not dead, and has a competition at a certain German demo party :-)
Ooh - it'd be nice if Alambik was released - I used to trawl through all the examples on the website around 9 years ago... very impressed. I remember the Nero volcano.
Did Crystal Score work for Alambik also? I thought the soundtracks were immense!

no no, not a no-go, I just havn't the time to dig up the thing yet, but as gasman said perhaps it's better to try a newer platform than this 7 years old abandonned piece of software :)
rez: try saying that to Buzz (classic) users! ;)
I had a REALLY hard time explaining that there was something like Alambik running smoothly several years before faux 3d enginges in Flash made a modern computer stumble over it's own tail.
Please, Rez? For science?

I see there are some old demo stuff for Alambik that wouldn't be watchable without the player. I download one (fruit) and yes there is an exe version too but I get a black screen in a window while the music keeps playing. There is the player inside too, I installed it and nothing improves. Also an html to run this, but it asks me to download plugin. Would be nice if I could see those Alambik demos after so many years again.
I was a faithful alambik supporter, back in those days ... and though i quite liked it : please, don't look back and look at the future !
WebGL, for god's sake !

But I'm not interested in WebGL :[
Hey rez hows it coming?
Out of interest, why are you interested in an ancient, abandoned web browser plugin like this? Seems like an odd choice :) (Not that there's anything bad in that, we're in this for the fun, the women and the money, gotta do whatever you find brings all 3).
I'm not really interested in the web portion of it. If I recall correctly, the full version can create exe's. To answer your question though, I remember messing with it way back when I decided I was interested in gfx programming. I just wanted to revisit it. I'm also interested in seeing the structures of different programming/scripting languages.
Ah right, didn't remember that it could do exes. Should be fun now that we have a lot more cpu power :)
Spring break is next week! Any possibility of sending Alambik before then?
Bump!
Any news?
Summer break is the week after next! Any possibility of sending Alambik before then? (aka BUMP)
xteraco: didn't find it in the backup, I'm asking some old members of the company...
Right on, well if you can round it up, and have a Paypal account, I'd be more then happy to make a donation. ;)
