Finally a fast replayer. And I love the visualisation here :)
Thanks. More or less inverted visuals of yours :) - isokadded on the 2022-05-20 16:32:20

- This release features the new optimized 'Pretracker 1.6' replayer
to allow easier use in intros (less rastertime, smaller replayer).
The PreTracker synth precalcs all samples on startup. For actual replaying packed register dumps are used which get decompressed at runtime. The iterative PreTracker packer tries to find a balance between song size, decompression performance and final size when compressed with Shrinkler. Longer songs pack better and filesize doesn't grow linearly with playtime.
The song 'Plastic Dove' from Abyss' 'Coda' intro is used as example. The original register dump takes 153.568 bytes. The packed file takes 12.802 bytes (for a duration of 1 minute and 35 seconds). Much better pack ratios are possible but cause larger files when finally compressed by Shrinkler.
The replayer takes around 10 rasterlines on A500 and needs no interrupts.
This includes the mandatory 8 rasterlines DMA wait which are needed by PreTracker tunes that use certain features. In this intro a slightly smaller but slower version is used (this gains another 1000 bytes in the final size). - rulezadded on the 2022-05-20 12:29:00

But a LightSpeedPlayer derivate can use it. That's the point.
I see your point. I already tried a register dumper with compression for a fast replayer. but the compressed songs were much bigger then the Pretracker songs. Not useable anymore for games where i can have 15 songs plus soundfx in only 30kb workmem. However, it may be still of use in an intro.. perhaps with the next version :) - isokadded on the 2022-04-27 17:21:40

- The output of the sample creation part itself can't be used with a Protracker styled replayer. The sounds of Pretracker can't be recreated with it. Protracker is missing the wavetable synthesis, the adsr, the instrument pattern, the 5 octaves and so on..

- If you need a very fast and small replayer then Pretracker is not the right choice. Cinter is much better for that. Pretracker is good for very small tunes and to create sounds that add new flavours to Amiga music. However, some fine 50hz OCS games and intros are using the replayer, so it seems at least useable.

- The cheesy crust of musicdisks! And great to hear amiga chiptunes that sound quite different to what we're used to.
